To help prevent abuse and theft of medication and improperly disposed of drugs, The Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray is partnering with the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office and the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria to host a Drug Take Back event on Saturday, April 29 from 10am to 2pm.
The Drug Take Back event addresses a critical public safety and public health issue. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.
Deputies will be outside the pharmacy collecting the drugs; the service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.
The Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray is located at 2204 Mt. Vernon Ave. in Alexandria. For more information, call 703-836-1700.
