Hold on to your hats!  Due to rain, this month's First Thursday will take place Thursday, April 14. The street festival in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria will take place from 6pm to dusk along Mount Vernon Avenue. The event is free and open to all.

Pull out your favorite hat, Easter Bonnet, or Crazy Hat Day-inspired creation, and stroll the Avenue for the theme "Hats Along the Avenue."  The April 14th event features music from Mars Rodeo, a photo booth, discounts for wearing your hat at select local businesses, and more. Pets are welcome -- pets with hats are welcome, too!

Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to support Blessings in a Backpack, a nonprofit that serves over 100 local children at Mount Vernon Community School and Maury Elementary School.  Blessings in a Backpack provides food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.  Suggested items include macaroni and cheese, microwave rice or mashed potatoes, apple sauce, crackers, granola bars, cereal bars, oatmeal packets, black beans, canned ravioli or pastas, small boxes of milk, canned chicken, and pudding cups; single-serve items are best.  Donations will be collected at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square, formerly known as the Farmer's Market lot at Mt. Vernon & E. Oxford Avenues.

Held the first Thursday from April to September along Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, First Thursday is a series of free outdoor street festivals that bring the community together around a fun theme, benefiting a local nonprofit.  This month’s event is sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association and Bobi Bomar's Homes of Alexandria.
