Alexandria Turkey Trot Raises $5,400 And Collects 2,102 Pounds Of Food For ALIVE!

Displaying volunteers.JPG    Over 5,200 runners participated in the 41st Annual Alexandria Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. The 5-mile race, sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association and DC Road Runners, raised $5,000 for ALIVE!;  runners also donated 2,102 pounds of food, plus an additional $400 in cash donations.  "Runners were very generous and supportive – as is the Del Ray Business Association,"  said ALIVE! Executive Director Diane Charles.  The $5,400 will be used to purchase fresh food items, like meat and eggs, for ALIVE's Food Program.
    In recognition of his years of service to the City of Alexandria, former Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille served as Grand Marshal of the Turkey Trot.
     New course records were set this year in both the men's and women's divisions: 19-year-old Tsegaye Getachew, of Washington, D.C., won first place overall, finishing in a record 23 minutes, 10 seconds; while 22-year-old Sinke Biyadgilgn, also of Washington, D.C., won the women's division, finishing in 26 minutes and 51 seconds.   For complete results, visit
