Evening Star Cafe, Pork Barrel BBQ Win Top Awards At Taste Of Del Ray

    The Del Ray Business Association hosted the 9th Annual Taste of Del Ray on June 4, showcasing a diverse collection of Del Ray's top restaurants.   The sold-out event featured a spirited competition between a record 18 participating neighborhood restaurants.

     Evening Star Cafe's Crawfish Boudin won the Judges' Choice Award, with the judges describing the dish as "perfected at every level"; while Pork Barrel BBQ's White Chicken Chili won the People's Choice Award, as voted by festival attendees.  This year's judges were Chef Craig Scheuerman, Director of the Culinary Arts program at T.C. Williams High School; and Arlington Magazine editor Jenny Sullivan.

1st Place: Pork Barrel BBQ -- White Chicken Chili
2nd Place: Taqueria Poblano -- Shrimp Mango Chalupa
3rd Place: Stomping Ground -- Buttermilk Biscuit and Fried Chicken with Spicy Aioli

Judges' Choice
1st Place: Evening Star Cafe -- Crawfish Boudin
2nd Place:  Stomping Ground -- Buttermilk Biscuit and Fried Chicken with Spicy Aioli
3rd Place: Pork Barrel BBQ -- White Chicken Chili

     The featured non-profit at the event was the Alexandria Boys and Girls Club, which provides a safe, comfortable, and fun alternative to youth who would otherwise be home alone or on the street.  The organization raised $1,000 at the Taste of Del Ray through drink sales and donations.   

     Held every June in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, the Taste of Del Ray showcases the neighborhood's top restaurants in a spirited competition sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association.   Proceeds from ticket sales help fund neighborhood events throughout the year.
