Beginning in Spring of 2014, Studio Body Logic (SBL) began giving private Pilates instruction to military veterans who were compromised in some capacity by their military service. Over the course of five months, SBL instructors saw four individuals with the US Army on a one to one basis, with the goal of alleviating in some way the physical problems they incurred as a result of their service.

Along with funds from the Alexandria Rotary Club, SBL raised additional funds to provide 10 private lessons to each of the four military members.

Studio Body Logic will continue to support and work to heal our local wounded military by raising funds for the NextStep program so that our veterans can receive Pilates training at no cost.

"Through this program I realized that a continued Pilates program would help me to continue in my healing and return to becoming more whole". -- NextStep Participant

Del Ray wraps up the summer season with the final First Thursday street festival of 2014 on Thursday, September 4th (6 to 9 pm).

    "Del Ray's Got Talent...and Fashion!"

Del Ray wraps up the summer season with the final First Thursday street festival of 2014 on Thursday, September 4th.

    "Del Ray's Got Talent...and Fashion!"

The Del Ray Business Association is encouraging everyone to participate in this season's final First Thursday featuring fashion, music and talent. And we want YOU to be part of the show!

Dress for success, dress in couture, dress in drag, dress in costume...anything goes! AND...bring and/or dress your dog! Paul Haire, from Your Dog's Best Friend, has generously offered to donate $20 for each dog that "walks" the catwalk toward the new Dog Park! To participate, guest dog models must be on-site at the Farmer's Market by 6 pm.

Oh, and don't miss Mayor William Euille accepting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at 7pm in front of Paul's new storefront at 2301 Mt. Vernon Avenue. Perhaps the Mayor might own our runway again this year!

Our charity for the evening is ALIVE! and we are gratefully accepting new and gently used coats on their behalf. Thank you in advance for scouring those closets tonight and filling our bins for this very worthy organization.

Del Ray Variety and Duncan Library are teaming up for the night proclaiming, "It’s Fashionable to Read” (we think so too!). They will be handing out worksheets for the kids to complete, and then hand-in, for a free book from Del Ray Variety.

The night kicks-off promptly at 6pm with
Your Dog's Best Friend, The Purple Goose, Salon Bisoux, lululemon athletica for Mind the Mat, Gossip on 23rd, for Dragon Pilates, and Amalgamated all graciously participating.

    Our own
Kate Moran Band headlines the talent portion of the show. Martha Krabill from American Idol Season 3 and The Reflex ultimate 80's band will join to lend her talent to the evening. Lots of surprises in store...don't miss out, find those dancin' shoes, grab the kids and the canine, and come ready to kick up your heels and have some fun!

Our sincere thanks to Melissa McGlone from Vital and Megan Brown from Mind the Mat for making the final First Thursday outstanding!

And be sure and check out additional activities that will be taking place up and down the Avenue.

For more information, contact Pat Miller at pmiller1806@comcast.net.

Committee: Megan Brown, Melissa Mcglone, Gina White, Kate Moran
