First Thursday returns to Del Ray on Thursday, April 7th from 6pm to dusk! This month's theme is Hats Along the Avenue -- grab your favorite hat, Easter bonnet, or throwback to your elementary school days and make a crazy hat creation!
This month's First Thursday will benefit Blessings in a Backpack, a wonderful non-profit that provides food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
The program was recently expanded to include Mt. Vernon Community School, and already serves 50 families. The program has served Maury Elementary since 2014, and serves 53 families.
Single-serving items to benefit Blessings in a Backpack will be collected at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Ave. & Oxford Ave. during First Thursday. Suggested items include macaroni and cheese, apple sauce or pudding cups, granola bars, cereal bars, oatmeal (individual packets), black beans, or canned pasta -- whatever snack-sized or single-serving items you or your kids like!
Join us on the Avenue Thursday to support this worthy project! Our neighborhood kids should be thinking about crazy hat day at school -- and not worried about going hungry when the school cafeteria is closed.
This month's First Thursday is sponsored by Bobi Bomar's Homes of Alexandria and the Del Ray Business Association.
